Last week you should have received a form detailing our state requirement regarding age appropriate education on sexual and dating abuse and violence. This is an education that will be provided annually. In our K-6 grades, this will be developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention. Students in these grades will also receive other social emotional lessons such as personal safety and assault prevention. Students will participate in the lessons and/or activities for these state requirements unless a parent/guardian completes the opt form excusing their child(ren) at the bottom of the sheet sent home. If a parent/guardian has questions about this curriculum or law, please contact the superintendent at 740-374-6500 ext. 8013.

April is Autism Awareness Month and we want to make sure we acknowledge, celebrate and educate all of our students about the wonderful minds of individuals on the spectrum. So in the spirit of the month all of our schools will be participating in a spirit week! Next week, each day will have a theme for students who choose to participate, these range from wear a fun hat to wearing clothes with something you love on it. All Marietta City School District bus routes will be returning to normal starting this afternoon, thank you!

Marietta City School District will be in session after a 2-hour delay this morning but there will be several bus routes that will still be impacted by flooding. Anything North of Washington Street on the West Side (Gilman, Oak Grove, etc.) will be unable to be reached. We will have a bus picking up from The Boys and Girls Club, so students dropped off there may be bussed to school. The pickup time will be 8:30 a.m. for High School students and 10:30 a.m. for Elementary School students. Any student who can't be picked up by bus can call in for an excused absence. Thank you

Tigers, In addition to the Safety and Information document we’ve shared with you earlier in the week, we wanted to clarify a few things regarding what will be happening on Monday, April 8, 2024 due to the solar eclipse. While our district will be having a normal day of instruction, we understand that there will be families that want to enjoy this historic event with their children. Any student who is missing school on Monday to view the eclipse with their family will be considered an excused absence. This will still require the parent to call in and report the absence with the school that their child attends. For students who will be attending school that day, each building within the district will have their own plan for how the eclipse will fit in their daily instruction and how it will affect dismissal. Each building will share specifics directly to staff and parents this weekend. Questions or concerns about these plans should be directed to the building administration, not your students' teachers. Thank you, Brad Silvus, Superintendent

Tigers, I wanted to share information regarding Marietta City School District’s plan for the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. After much discussion between myself, our Board of Education members and neighboring districts within the county, we have decided that all 4 of our buildings in the district will be having a normal day of instruction on April 8th. Our board has established a clear expectation that minimizing our time out of the classroom is what is best for our students. This decision we feel will allow our students to have a minimally interrupted day of learning, and still witness this event alongside their peers and educators. Thanks to a generous donation from Eye Care Associates in Marietta, all of our students will have protective eyewear in order to view the historic eclipse. Since student safety is our number one priority, we will be distributing materials to our staff and students with instructions on how to make use of these glasses to safely enjoy the eclipse. We will also disseminate other safety and informational resources we’ve found from outside our organization to educators, students and families in the district. We are excited to share in this historic event with our staff and students. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out by emailing me at bsilvus@mariettacsdoh.org Thank you and Go Tigers! Brad Silvus, Superintendent for Marietta City School District
